    Description

    This engaging carved olivewood plaque depicts the Dome of the Rock or Temple Mount.  The highly dense beautifully colored wood makes a perfect medium for this carving.  It is a section of branch or trunk cut from an olive tree and it still has the bark on the edges.  The reverse of the plaque has the word Jerusalem printed on it along with the name in Hebrew.  I believe this piece dates from the late 19th c. and is a souvenir of someone's visit to the Holy Land.
