In 1999, the Polar Bear design appeared only in a limited number of special coin sets produced for the collector market. This set includes one of the coins along with a common loon dollar, 50-cent coat of arms, 25-cent caribou quarter, 10-cent bluenose schooner dime, 5-cent beaver nickel, and 1-cent maple leaf penny. Each coin has been struck in specimen finish and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint case. It also comes with a certificate of authenticity to value.

Since its introduction in 1996, the coin has become somewhat of a Canadian symbol. The Royal Canadian Mint created a special edition 2000 millennium edition bear to celebrate the coin which can be found in this Canada Knowledge 2000 Specimen Set of 7 Coins. The original “Toonie” coin’s design of the majestic lone bear was replaced by a female one with her two cubs. This image was created by artist Tony Bianco which personifies the transfer of knowledge as well as wisdom from one generation onto the next. It also comes with an effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Canadian artist Dora de Pedery-Hunt. This millenium proof silver coin also comes with an inscription which says "Knowledge - Le Savoir." The set comes in a leatherette case with cardboard sleeve. As is typical for this set, the outer cardboard sleeve may have some light wear.
