Antique 19th century Chinese or Vietnamese polearm trident halberd, spear, of a rare pattern. The head is hand-forged from a single piece of steel composed three blades; each blade is single-edged, tapering like a dagger's edge, and is triangular in cross-section.
The blades appear from a short tang, split into three branches, forming a trident blade. The branches are decorated with punched designs.
These types of Tridents of identical form were used in China and Vietnam. So, in many sources, this type of trident is described as a Vietnamese trident and, in others, as a Chinese trident. Sometimes, even experts cannot tell where in fact, the trident was made, in China, or in Vietnam.
MEASUREMENTS:
The overall length, including pole: 196 cm. (77.17 inches).
The overall length of the iron head, including tang: 35.5 cm. (13.98 inches).
Width of the blade at the widest point: 17.3 cm (6.81 inches).
CONDITION: Steel head shows age and usage, with minor light pitting.The trident is fitted into a wooden pole with a brass collar, which are a modern replacement.
